FIT4MOMS – So Much More Than Just a Workout!

As a mom one of the biggest struggles can be finding enough time for everything, whether you are a working mom, stay at home mom, a work from home mom or identify somewhere in between it always seems like there are just not enough hours in the day to accomplish everything. If you are like me often my personal needs get pushed aside first, and this often means skipping a workout. 1

Finding time to work out once baby comes along can be tough, and I’m sure the more children you have the more difficult finding time for a workout becomes. Before I had my daughter I was able to go to fitness classes all the time and work out at home with no distractions, but once the little one came along it was so difficult to find the time or not get distracted working out at home. A lot of fitness classes don’t offer childcare, and some childcare doesn’t start until children are at least 10 months, so how is a mom to find time to workout? Enter FIT4MOMS.  4

FIT4MOMS is a unique workout that allows you to take your child(ren) to workout with you. Yes, they are part of the actual workout! If you have a stroller (along with stroller-age children) you can attend a FIT4MOMS workout, in fact the specific workout offered at FIT4MOMS South Hills is called Stroller Strides. Stroller Strides is a unique workout that uses interval training to give moms a workout while entertaining the little ones. The workouts include jogging with your stroller, songs to keep your little one engaged, and an effective workout for you that will give you results! I was shocked at just how challenging the FIT4MOMS workout was, but don’t be intimidated it really is for every level with modifications provided.

However, FIT4MOMS is not just a workout it is a community of moms, Lauren Kail (the owner of FIT4MOMS South Hills) really takes the community aspect of FIT4MOMS to heart. There are weekly playdates scheduled following the Wednesday class, a monthly moms night out, as well as community events. The environment at a FIT4Moms class is intimidation free and everyone is so welcoming to new moms. I had the opportunity to attend a FIT4MOMS class, and was so surprised at just how friendly everyone was, and how great Lauren was with all the kids; not only was she focused on leading and motivating the moms in their workout, but she would step in and help with any child, so the mom could continue to focus on the workout. 3

FIT4Moms is offered all year long, currently at two locations: The Westminster Recreation and Outreach Center and Mt. Lebanon Park/The Galleria Mall (depending on time of year – winter classes are currently being held indoors at The Galleria). Another awesome part of FIT4Moms – you can try your first class for free! Nicole G.
Nicole is a mom to two children each with big personalities - Reagan is currently 4 and Tyler is 2, they are exactly 26 months apart to the day, and ever since Tyler was born life has been non-stop! She's a stay-at-home/work-at-home mom who works full time as a virtual Social Studies teacher for middle and high school students. Although she was originally from the North Hills, 10 days before Reagan was born her and her husband relocated to the South Hills. (However, within the year they will be heading back North of the city to be closer to family). Nicole would rather spend time outdoors, preferably in the fall with a good book and a cup of coffee (or glass of wine), but realistically she is generally multi-tasking between work and the kids. She does love cooking and can often be seen having dance parties in the kitchen (usually with Reagan) while making dinner.
