As moms we wear a million hats. Our daily tasks start early in the morning and continues until the late hours of the evening. A recent article I read, stated that being a Stay At Home Mom is equivalent to 2.5 full time jobs! That is crazy!!!! However, I know this is totally true. I have my first child, 8 month old not so little (we’re in 18 month clothes), Lexington. I’m obsessed and think she is the most adorable baby ever, don’t we all think that of our kids?
Before Lexington, I was a #bossbabe. Owning my own direct sales business and enjoying all of the freedom and flexibility that comes along with it. I would frequently be getting my nails done, lounge by the pool, go shopping, have lunch and coffee dates with girlfriends and everyday was whatever I wanted it to be with a balance of work and fun. While doing that I was building an actual real business, not just the cute girl selling lipstick like most people think when they hear “direct sales”. I lead over 60 women in building their businesses as well as service over 300 customers which in turn contributes a substantial salary to our household income. I am currently in a leadership position which represents the top 2% of our company. I also have a Master’s Degree and a Dual Bachelors (which look super pretty in their frames collecting dust) and I exceed that income with this cute lipstick business.
So why am I telling you all of this? Because I want you to know you have choices. I always knew I wanted a family and that when I did have a family, I wanted to be home raising my kids. Not someone else or a daycare. This was a personal choice we made, strongly influenced by the way my husband and I both were raised. We agreed this was the best option for our family, which is why I chose direct sales as my career, so I could balance my mom life and contribute to our family without missing her grow up or being in financial stress.
I am passionate about helping all women realize their God given potential. With this new season of my life and being a mommy, I want to encourage other moms do the same. You can be home with your kids if you want. Daycare shouldn’t be the only option. Some of my friends pay a mortgage sized daycare tuition (that’s cray cray!) These opportunities are waiting for you. You can do it! I believe in you. If you can be a mom, you can be successful in direct sales (trust me being a mom is harder!)
I believe that I am a better mom and wife because of my direct sales journey. I have learned so many life skills and am now surrounded by a friend circle of strong, successful women. If it is something you’ve been considering for extra money, girlfriend time, recognition, freedom/flexibility, desire for more, passion to make an impact….whatever the reason. I encourage you to go for it. You never know until you try!!! You may be rolling your eyes thinking oh sure let me add one more thing to my plate…but guess what we are moms our lives will never be not busy, there is no perfect time, you just have to go with it!
The first thing about direct sales is you have to do your research. I didn’t know it all when I first started, but I have learned over the 6 years I’ve been building my business that there are so many options available. Most are fun and trendy, some are more serious but the bottom line is it is a business and you need to look at the time you will be investing as well as the return you will receive. Especially when you are so busy being a mom already and your time is limited to fit it all in and do everything well!
Here are some questions you should ask yourself when you are considering joining a direct sales business.
-What is product I will be selling?
-Do I personally love this product and am I passionate about sharing it with others?
-Is the product consumable?
-Will I have reorders from my customers?
-What is the commission percentage I will make on my personal sales?
-Is this consistent or does it change?
-How do I get paid this commission? Is it directly to me from my customers or from my company?
-How often will I get paid?
-What are my ordering requirements and minimums? Monthly/Quarterly/Annually
-Do I have the availability to team build?
-Will I make a commission on my team members? If so how much and what is the commission structure?
-What are the additional perks of being a consultant?
-Prizes/Free Car/Recognition/Personal Discount/Trips/Product Bonuses
-What types of training are available to me?
Online/Conference Calls/Facebook Live/Training Videos/Resource Website/Conferences/Weekly Local Trainings
