My Unicorn Day

Has anyone ever had a Unicorn Day before?  I like to define Unicorn Days as those days when EVERYTHING goes really well, or just the way you had hoped it would.  Those are the days which you compare all other days to, and they usually happen a few times in a lifetime, and if we’re lucky, a few times a year.  Unicorn Days are those days when you pinch yourself to make sure it’s not just a wonderful dream, and make you truly happy and grateful to be alive.

My Unicorn Day was this past week and it was, quite honestly, perfect.  Here’s how my day went:

7AM: Sun is shining, and both my kids are still in bed

7:30AM: I am already showered and ready for the day, my husband is getting breakfast ready for the kids so I get to walk the dog and make lunches with a little less stress

8:30AM: Leave for work, weirdly don’t run into much traffic

9:30AM-3:00PM: AWESOME day at work – productive meetings, got meaningful work done, and felt like I actually made a significant difference

3:30PM: Driving home, and get a phone call from my husband – he called to tell me he contacted a gutter cleaner (something that has been on his to do list for weeks), that he left work early and had already gone shopping for dinner tonight…oh and that he had joined the gym!!

4:00PM: Hubby is home, has let the babysitter off and gotten snacks together for the kids.  Unfortunately he had to run back to work for an hour or so, so my kids helped me prep and cook dinner which included rotisserie chicken, mashed potatoes and guacamole.

6:00PM: My two kids sit at the table happily eating all their dinner while listening to the Hamilton soundtrack.

7:00PM: Hubby comes home just in time for bedtime as my two boys (6 and 3) are watching Cosmos (seriously, Cosmos, the Neil DeGrasse Tyson astrophysics show!!) while I have a glass of wine.

7:30PM: Hubby puts kids to bed while I clean up downstairs and get our dinners ready, we then sit down and have a great dinner together.

I mean… seriously!  Can this please happen every day!?  Days like this are really hard to come by – most days are filled with yelling and at least one item being spilled on the ground.  I went to bed that night with such a feeling of pride not only in what I achieved that day but also thinking about how awesome my family was.  I need to remember that even on those not so great days, but family is pretty awesome, and they are capable of some amazing things.
