Utilizing Your Library: A Look at Hoopla

The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh has so many resources for its patrons, but today I was to focus on one my family recently discovered, Hoopla. Hoopla is a digital library you have 24/7 access to with your library card. You are able to instantly stream movies, tv shows, audiobooks, and music to your electronic device. You are also able to read books, comics, and more with Hoopla.

Signing up is free and easy. You can check out the website here. Once you have an account you are able to download 10 items a month. Downloading tv shows for my toddler is my go-to since we do not have cable and a little screen time allows me to clean up and get meals prepped/cooked. I recommend downloading the Hoopla app on your phone or tablet. I am able to stream tv shows from my phone to our television in our living room with the app and Google Chromecast.

Some of my favorite features of Hoopla are:

  1. Access to educational tv shows: There are several foreign language children’s shows, history specials, and science shows children can enjoy. This feature is great for homeschooling families and teachers to show in their classrooms.
  2. Streaming audiobooks and music in the car: This is a great feature that allows you to sample new music and audiobooks without having to buy them or wait for them to be available at the library.
  3. Everyone in your family that has a library card can have a Hoopla account. This is great if you have children and teens that want to download different things than you want to view.
  4. It’s free! I know I already said it was free to use, but this is my favorite feature. I am able to download PBS Kids shows and Nick Jr. shows for my toddler to watch, my husband can download comics to read, and I can download workout videos to do during all my free time.

Grab your library card, check out Hoopla, and start having instant access to movies, books, music, and so much more.
