Giving Tuesday: Introducing #PMBShares

When I joined the Pittsburgh Moms Blog team, I knew that I wanted to make a difference not only for other moms, but also in the incredible community that surrounds us. Lucky for me, the other writers of our little tribe had the same exact idea. After months of brainstorming and collaboration, our Pittsburgh Moms Blog Family has a rather large announcement to make.

On this Giving Tuesday, we are proud to announce the launch of #PMBShares.

What is #PMBShares?

#PMBShares is our Contributors’ way of giving back to our community. It is a way for non-profit and other fundraising based events and campaigns to gain no-cost advertising through our events calendar. It’s also a channel for families in the Greater Pittsburgh Area (and surrounding areas) to find Fundraisers and Charities to support. Our goal is to bring our community together in an effort to spread awareness and advocate for as many local charities, events, and fundraisers as possible, not just during the Holiday Season, but all year long.

Who Qualifies for #PMBShares?

No event or cause is too small. As long as your event is dated and includes an in-person element with proceeds being allocated to a local charity or community member in need, it qualifies for #PMBShares. If you are organizing or know of an event that fits our criteria, please add it to our Community Event calendar and tag it with the appropriate type of event (dinner, fundraiser, show, etc.).

If the event fits the criteria to be included in #PMBShares, one of our administrators will add it to the calendar. (If it does not, you will receive an email with the specific reason why it was not approved and the opportunity to resubmit the event if it does, in fact meet the #PMBshares guidelines.)

Cara Atkinson: mother of two, cancer survivor, and founder of The Club Hope Foundation is one of many local philanthropists who will be featured by #PMBShares.

Why Pittsburgh Moms Blog is Excited for #PMBShares:

This movement gives us the opportunity to truly make a difference in our community. #PMBShares is our way to not only individually help those around us, but also to share opportunities to collectively “be the change” with our ever growing readership. We moms truly believe that we can make a difference, and we want all of you to join us in our efforts. After all, what better example can we set for our children than to help others in our community in their time of need?

Our hope to eventually expand #PMBShares to individual posts featuring local non-profits. We’d also love to personally attend and publicize local, charitable events and even do some volunteer work as a group. But first, we need those submissions added to our calendar. So don’t be shy, and get to submitting!

We look forward to showcasing your events, sharing our passion for making a difference, and collaborating with your charity/non-profit in the very near future. In the meantime, please contact me (Liz Hawkins), the Special Projects Coordinator for #PMBShares, with any questions at [email protected].

Liz Hawkins
Liz, who grew up in New Castle, PA, is the only female resident of her family’s Cranberry Township home. This boy mom actually enjoys being severely outnumbered by her husband Adam, their 5 year old Miles, and even her male dog and cat. She frequently claims that there are definite perks to being the “lady of the house”. Liz studied Secondary Education/English at Clarion University where she also earned her Masters of Curriculum and Instruction. She puts her degrees to good use as a high school English teacher. Though it’s sometimes difficult to juggle her career and motherhood, she can’t imagine her life without either role. When Liz isn’t teaching or relaxing with her guys at home, she can typically be found reading, working out, adding items to her Amazon Prime wishlist, listening to 90’s hip hop, cooking, or planning her family’s next vacation.
